Dynamically set options of a custom ticket field with an SQL query

I'm trying to find a way to dynamically set the options for a select custom ticket field by using an SQL query. I have tried a patch made to do this to a previous version of trac which I have found on our SVN repository but this does not work and I have no idea where it came from. I have also found a patch ( http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/4549) which is for 0.10 and looks too dissimilar to my current api.py file to even think about trying. I'm running trac version 0.12.2. Is anyone running anything to do this or knows of a patch to do it with?

Was a bit premature with posting this, I've now managed (I hope!) to patch it myself to get it to do what I want.
