Issue with trace-admin permissions command

I have been using this same command for different users for last 2
years and it never threw and error

# trac-admin /home/test/trac permission add dev1 authenticated
invalid command name '/home/test/trac'

but now when i run it on my trac installation it gives an error as
above...any guesses?

I experienced the same error, after removing and then running initenv.  Look for a file in the directory that is setup.py or any other executable Python script.

The issue sounds somewhat familiar. If you are okay with guesses, I'd say to check the permissions of your $TRACENV directory, and the trac.log file in particular.
