I'm in a bit of a pickle. I can't remember my trac project username so
I can't log in via the web interface. But since I'm root on my server,
I can run trac-admin, and have created a new user, call him 'fred', and
have given him TICKET_ADMIN privileges. But 'fred' can't log in via
the web because he doesn't have a password, and I don't see any way in
trac-admin to do that.

Any suggestions?

thanks
S

usually one uses htaccess or apache authentication for trac - one
doesnt use trac-admin for that

Answering my own question here...

Get a copy of the small application python-digest.py off the Trac
wiki (from http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracStandalone) and use it
to create a passwords file containing passwords for all the users. I
discovered that I already a .passwords file in <path to initenv>/conf
so I just appended to that. I noticed that the python script
inserted the realm 'trac' after the user name in the file, whereas my
existing users in the file had the realm 'TracRealm' after their
name, so I manually edited the new user's record to match the others.
Then I restarted trac and all was well.

cheers
S

Hi Stewart,

I have also faced the same problem,
I also have specified the users file which has the entries like
NAYAK:trac:fd52cd13e7ac98f9d208bb07ae22b77d

the server is started with the command
tracd -p 8000 --auth tracprj,d:\trac-proj\authz.htdigest,trac d:\trac-proj

but still I am not able to login and I get the error
"Authentication information not available."

You probably have a project name mismatch here: 'tracprj' and 'trac-proj'
