What is TPOBC’s Saturday School?
TPOBC’s Saturday School is a once-a-month opportunity for blind children and their families to spend time
exploring opportunities for recreation and learning. We live in a city and state with wonderfully diverse offerings
for outdoor and indoor recreation. Come join us as we explore how to adapt those offerings for our blind and
visually impaired kids. Meet other families and share your experiences.
Goalball is a highly competitive sport played three-against-three, indoors on a gym floor--primarily by blind and
visually impaired athletes. It's played from the local school-gym level on up to the Paralympic, 'Team USA' level
Internationally. The object is to roll a three-pound Goalball, which is sort of like a heavy basketball, past the
opposing team without them stopping it. It's their job to block that ball at all costs.
NFB-NEWSLINE® is a free service that offers blind and print disabled individuals anytime, anywhere access to
over 300 newspapers and magazines as well as TV listings through any touch-tone telephone, iDevices, over
the Internet, or by download to a digital talking-book player or MP3-playing device.

It is our sincere belief that our kids can do anything and that by joining together, we can make a difference in
the future of all blind children. The NFB is changing what it means to be blind. Our philosophy is:
The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The real problem is the misunderstanding and
lack of information that exist. If a blind person has proper training and opportunity, blindness can be
reduced to a physical nuisance.
