Please join Texas Parents of Blind Children (TPOBC) at the National Federation of the Blind of Texas (NFBTX) State Convention in beautiful Houston, Texas!

When: Friday, November 10 to November 12, 2017

Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel (Houston Hobby Airport)

I would like to invite all families of blind and low vision children, teachers, and other professionals to join us at the NFB Texas state convention! Attending NFB Texas state convention will be a great opportunity for you to meet other families and for your children to meet other students along with blind and low vision adults. 7:25pm to 7:30pm – Welcome, Bre Brown, President, Texas Association of Blind Students

7:30pm to 9:15pm – Parent Round Table Discussions

Topics to be discussed:

IEP Issues – Do you have issues with your child’s current IEP?  Are you fighting for services? Does your school have low expectations for your child?

Building Programs for Blind and Low Vision Children – Discuss what programs are available and what programs or activities are needed.

Why Braille and the long white cane?

What are the skills of blindness?

9:15pm to 9:30pm – TPOBC Elections

Kim... Is this convention for school age children or for all ages.. My son graduated in 2016.. Thank you for letting me know about getting in touch with Chris Caseworker..

All ages are invited! The only specific session for families is Friday evening, but there will be learning done throughout the weekend with the other NFB Texas speakers and workshops. Your son might like to attend the Texas Association of Blind Students (TABS) meeting on Friday evening also. This would be a great opportunity for him to meet other blind and low vision high school and college students. He may already know some of them!

I would really like for our Texas families to join us and help us to brainstorm on what our Texas families need. The TPOBC board is an all volunteer board of family members of blind and low vision children. We cannot make things happen without help from other families. We need to know you needs and how we can help with those needs.

Together we are stronger!
