Hello everyone,
Occasionally, we get calls or email from people who want to donate stuff to us. We don't generally take most things that people offer because our office would soon look like hoarders inhabit it. However, I thought it might make some sense to share some of this with you in case you or someone you know might benefit from what they are offering. So, here is what I propose to do, starting with this email.
If we get calls or email regarding blindness related products that people wish to donate, either Kayleigh or I will share the information we have about the item(s) and ask that you touch base with us if you think it would be something that would be useful to you. We will handle this on a first come first served basis, and we will put you in touch with the individual who has contacted us. That will allow you to work out the necessary details with the potential donor.
Having said all that. I have received a call from someone in the Austin area who has an ONYX Deskset XL, a video magnifier, made by Freedom Scientific. I believe this item is 5-8 years old. I am told it seems to be in good shape. However, I have not seen it. This would be a donation, but if you live outside Austin, the lady who has it might ask you to pay for shipping. I am not clear on how she will deal with that.
If you, or someone you know, could benefit from a free piece of low vision technology such as this, please feel free to contact me. When you do, please give me your contact information in case I don't have it. I will then, ask that you and the donor talk to one another in order to work out the details of the donation.
Thanks,
Norma Crosby, President
