The nice guys at Evozon have been sprucing css files for Perl sites. Here is their idea for Perl.org - this is just css changes so trivial to implement - who do we contact to get this done? (I'M LOOKING AT LEO INTENTLY).

I can get it done... but you'd need approval from Robert and Ask
before I could do that as they own the site.

https://github.com/perlorg/perlweb

Maybe open an issue on github with a link to this thread?

Thanks

I like it. It's just a bit anemic, which is the general feel of Perl.com, Perl.org and CPAN.org.
While they're all beautiful (probably sans Perl.com), they're pretty white/light grey.

Perhaps we could get the guys at Evozon to take a look at Perl.com?    Perl.com is a TPF site.

Is Perl.com still used much?
Chromatic tried to do something with it. I don't know how that went along.

Besides, as long as people are directed to PerlMonks, it's worthwhile to make it prettier.
Actually, scratch that: to make it pretty to begin with.

It hasn't published a new article since January. But more people might visit it if it looked nicer.

Of course, it's running Movable Type, so it might not be all that easy to change the design :-/

I should note that Mircea has some very capable people with Movable Type templating experience.
I'm not going to, but I should note it. :)

Yes, perl.com is used much.    TPF pays Chromatic to write articles for Perl.com.    The advertising on that site is also a source of revenue for TPF.    So, making it look nice would be beneficial to us.     We make money off of Perl.com.  We don't make money off of Perlmonks.    So, in my mind, Perl.com ought to be the priority.    But if the labor is being donated, then I'm very happy to take whatever they are willing to give.

You make a good point. I second that train of thought.

Again another post missing. Weird.

So Perl.com and Perl.org are the priorities in terms of site modifications/updates? Are we going to try to keep them similar for "branding" purposes?

Would more content posted to Perl.com correlate to increased readership (and revenues)? Would it make sense to ask for more contributors from the community? What would that look like? How would it be managed? Is it a silly idea?

I suggest we start by bouncing these ideas off of Chromatic.

Any update from Chromatic about this?

Yes.

I sent an e-mail to the list on July 14, stating:  "Chromatic is receptive to the idea of improving the look of Perl.com.   The only restriction is that we need to leave the Tom Christiansen ad on the page."

Are we allowed to redesign the add to make it fit the new design?
Coloring, etc.
Should we go through Tom directly on this?

He did not say.    We should probably ask Tom.     I can do that if you want?

Thank would be great, thank you. :)

Basically what we need to know is: "can we adjust the ad (colors/angle/etc.) to play along with the new design?"

Of course we have no problem of showing it to him for approval once it's done.

You might want to mention to him that http://training.perl.com/ (where the advert links to)
hasn't worked for a month or more

<changed title to correct domain>

Sawyer - do you have someone who knows movable type and it's templates? - e.g how is the design going to be implemented?

Cheers

The design is done in PSD format. The company will also do the HTML for us. We will end up getting the static .html files.
However, they have some people (at least one that I know of) that know Movable Type and they might be able to make those people available for us.

I personally don't know MT.
