Do you have young pianists or organists in your congregation?  See below for some great opportunities for them!

San Diego American Guild of Organists Scholarship Auditions:

Auditions are open to pianists and organists of any age (even adults).  Typically all students who play well receive scholarship awards for organ study with a local teacher.  This year the auditions will be held May 9 at Clairemont Lutheran Church on Clairemont Mesa Blvd.  Students need not be advanced – we’ve had children play things from level one method books.  There are lots of organ materials available now that make it possible for children to learn to play the organ at a very young age and experience the excitement of playing the King of Instruments.  Just think – you might be helping a future church organist get a start!  The application and rules are attached.  We typically have 20-25 students auditioning and this year we hope to have at least 30!

Pipe Organ Encounter:

This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in middle and high school who have some keyboard training to spend a week exploring the wonders of the pipe organ, the “King of Instruments.” A fun-filled week of private lessons, workshops, tours, recreation and a closing student recital is planned. The daily schedule will include: breakfast, private lessons, practice, lunch, recreation, dinner, individual practice, organ tours, ensemble playing, handbells, and concerts. Students will be introduced to basic organ technique, hymn playing, and organ repertoire. Lessons will be available for all levels of playing ability.

Students interested in attending are eligible for scholarship assistance from both San Diego AGO (see scholarship audition information above) and AGO National (see attached POE scholarship application)

Information applications for both of these events are attached (note that the POE flyer must be printed on legal size paper)  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
