Dear Friends,

We've got some upcoming events in September - please mark your calendars:

* Day After Labor Day Beach Cleanup TUES. SEPT 5, 7am-9am.  This time, pickup sticks and trash bags WILL be provided.  We'll meet at Dave's truck where you need to sign in and catch some donuts and coffee before heading out.

* Scripps SIO Beach Cleanup SAT. Sept 16 9am-noon. See instructions below and please register online.

* Take Back Beach Boardwalk Breakfast Potluck  SAT. Sept 23, 8am-10am, in front of Dave's truck. Everyone invited, bring your friends.

I'll be sending out LJSSA club dues notices in September, and we'll plan on having an Annual Meeting with Board elections sometime in late Sept or early October. This year, I am planning a special behind the scenes Scripps Pier tour w/ the Annual meeting and we'll have pizza and drinks immediately following on the deck for sunset near the pier.  In case you want to pay your dues notices online, here is link: http://www.ljssa.org/MembershipDues

Hi Tessa,

Here is the announcement I made to SIO last week:

I’m excited to announce that SIO has been included in this year’s I Love a Clean San Diego’s Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16th from 9am-Noon! This new location will be hosted by Scripps Safety, SIO 4 Sustainability, and EH&S Environmental Affairs. Registration is now open for volunteers, so we’re hoping to see a lot of SIO folks giving back with a few hours of community service to get our part of campus litter free in time for the fall quarter.

This is a family friendly event with light snacks provided, a Bling Your Bucket contest, and scout patches (see website for details). Since this is a sustainable event, please plan to bring your own bucket, reusable gloves, and water bottle. To register, please visit www.cleanupday.org, click the Register tab at the top and the go to Cleanup Sites. The Scripps Pier will be listed under Zone 3. The meeting point will be Pawka Green. Please be sure to bring your completed safety waiver and wear closed-toed shoes. Questions about the event can be directed to me.

This event is focused on both the beach and SIO/Birch land side, so plenty of volunteers are needed! Please let me know if you need additional details…you can use the attached flyer for advertisement if desired too.

Thanks! Allyson
