Hi all,

There will be a talk on November 2nd in Hobart and November 3rd in Devonport on monitoring and managing our threatened native orchids. Both talks will feature Fiona Coates, who is coming down from Victoria especially to share her knowledge gained from threated orchid monitoring and recovery projects in Victoria.

Tasmania’s native orchids are little gems of the bush: sometimes colourful, frequently deceptive and often elusive. Many are rare or threatened. You are invited to get up close with your local orchids and discover some secrets about where and how they grow. Two experts will discuss how we can better recognise, monitor and manage our native orchids for the future.

Threatened flora recovery plans all require ‘monitoring’, but often we don’t really know why or how to do this.  Fiona has been involved in several long-term orchid monitoring projects in Victoria, and will discuss some of the aims, techniques and common mistakes of monitoring, and how the data can be used to better manage our native orchids.
