Hi all,

I'm just doing some planning for the AGM, which will be a short
meeting in which we will formally elect members of the TPAG committee
(Or TPT - Threatened Plants Tasmania, as the name may change to).

The initial thought was to have the AGM after the field workshop on
August 23rd. However, the workshop will be held at the Peter Murrell
Reserve near Kingston, which is not a great location for a meeting. We
could possibly have the meeting somewhere in Kingston afterwards, but
people may be too tired, hungry and tempted to go home at that stage!
(Particularly if the weather isn't ideal).

An alternative suggestion is to hold the AGM at the botanic gardens on
threatened species day (Sunday September 7th). The gardens will be
having a threatened species display in the foyer of their visitors
centre, and there will probably be some threatened orchid photographs
on display too, by some of our local photographers. We could also do a
presentation on what the group would like to do with threatened
orchids, and have matt along to speak. Unfortunately Phil and Robin
cannot make it on the 7th of September, but we can accept nominations
for positions beforehand.

If anyone has a strong opinion either way, let me know. Otherwise I'll
probably go with the September 7 option.

As an aside, I have just written a letter of support for a grant put
in by the botanic gardens, to conduct germination trials, propogation
and re-introduction of several species of threatened orchids to their
natural habitat. I said that many tpag members are particularly
interested in threatened orchid conservation, and would love to
volunteer with such a project. We should hear about that grant in
approximately a month.

Hope everyone is keeping well,
Cheers,
Jenny

I am surprised that it is time for an AGM, it seems such a short time
since the committee was established.

Just to clarify, the committee members have not yet been formally
elected by the group. This will be the primary purpose of the AGM. We
may also gauge the support for changing the name to "Threatened Plants
Tasmania".
Cheers,
Jen

In relation to the requirements laid out by WILDCARE Inc for its
groups, you just need to have an Annual General Meeting between the
end of the membership year (December 31) and the end of March (prior
to the WILDCARE AGM). Having it in September would work too though as
from 1st Septemeber people can renew their WILDCARE membership for the
following calendar year - WILDCARE's membership year is a calendar
year. For those who would like to have a look at the Operating
Guidelines for WILDCARE Groups, they can be found on www.wildcaretas.org.au
under Forms.

Hi,
All associated bodies under The Model Rules generally have AGM's after
the end of the financial year and that generally would be around
September. As I suggested in an earlier email I believe we need to be an
autonomous Group and not necessarily aligned with Wildcare. Cheers,
Michael Swanton.

HI Andrew,

There is no misunderstanding. This is in the context of the Groups Logo and I am saying quite clearly we need to have our own identity and autonomy. As for the AGM you have already stated that it could be held in September. Cheers, Michael Swanton.

Hello Michael,

Thanks for responding to my posting on the TPAG site. There is obviously a need to clarify the origins and structure of TPAG.

The group has been created by WILDCARE Inc as a result of a WWF and TSN grant to WILDCARE Inc to create within its structure a group to support volunteering for threatened plant species. That grant to WILDCARE Inc is what has employed Catriona and now Jenny as Coordinators for the project. WILDCARE contracted DPIW to manage the postions and project.

The misunderstanding that TPAG has been created as a group independent of all others merely serves to reinforce the need to clearly identify the group for what it is - a Branch of WILDCARE Inc. Operational autonomy is unaffected by this as WILDCARE Inc has a very flexible approach to its groups, with a few basic provisos. Such as individuals being members of WILDCARE Inc as WILDCARE groups can only be created by WILDCARE members. And operating in accordance with the WILDCARE Rules (Constitution) and Branch Operating Guidelines. Under the Constitution the WILDCARE membership year is a calendar year not a financial year. The group also exists under the WILDCARE Incorporation and ABN, which means it can apply for grants with those things in place. If you like I can provide a list of all the things and services that WILDCARE has in place and provides to the group, ranging from web pages, auditing, bank accounts, funds management, newsletter, email, membership records, insurance policies and so on. This is all provided quietly in the background so that members are uncluttered with red tape and can focus on their volunteering.

A number of other WILDCARE groups have their own logos (Friends of Tasman Island and Friends of Maatsuyker Island for example). Have a look at www.wildcaretas.org.au and click on Groups to see the WILDCARE groups that operate across Tasmania. TPAG is in some pretty good company. WILDCARE is pleased to have formed the group as it was both a need in terms of conservation outcomes, and responds to the desires of many people, like yourself, to get in and make a difference in regard to threatened plants.

Regards

Andrew

Hi all,

I am proposing that the TPAG AGM be held on Sunday the 7th of
September, at 3:45pm at the Botanical Gardens conference room.

The AGM will be preceded by a short talk starting at 3pm on Tasmania's
threatened orchids from Matt Larcombe, the DPIW orchid project
officer, and an introduction to the proposed TPAG orchid burning and
monitoring project. It will be followed by some tea and biccies.

As September 7 is Threatened Species Day, there is quite an exciting
program of events being compiled on and around the day. I will include
details in another post. However, an exhibition of some beautiful
photographs of some of our threatened orchid species is another good
reason to visit the gardens!

The AGM will be short and sweet and the agenda items will be:

1. Formally vote in committee members (president, treasurer, secretary
and committee members)
2. Discuss and vote on the name change to "Threatened Plants Tasmania"
3. Discuss and vote on logo

If you can't make it, I will take nominations for committee positions
and short opinions on the name and logo before the date, and will
bring them up at the meeting for you. My email is
Jenny....@dpiw.tas.gov.au. Also let me know if you would like
anything else added to the agenda.

I hope you all can make it!
Thanks,
Jenny

Hi all,

just a quick reminder about the AGM this Sunday the 7th.

It will be held at 3:30pm at the Botanical Gardens Riverview Room.

It will be short and sweet (we get kicked out of the room at 4:45!)
and the agenda items will be:

1. Formally vote in TPAG committee members (president, treasurer,
secretary and committee members)
2. Discuss and vote on the name change to "Threatened Plants
Tasmania"
3. Discuss logo

The AGM will be preceded by a short talk starting at 3pm on Tasmania's
threatened orchids from Matt Larcombe, the DPIW orchid project
officer, and an introduction to the proposed TPAG orchid monitoring
project. It will be followed by some tea and biccies.

There is also a beautiful exhibition of threatened orchid photographs
in the botanical gardens display room, and a whole host of other
activities happening for threatened species day (www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/
threatenedspeciesday).

I hope you can make it!

Cheers,
Jenny
