Devonport on Saturday the 4th of October. The workshops are described
below. The location is yet to be arranged, but if you register your
interest I'll let you know closer to the date. If you have any

Are there threatened plants in your patch of bush?
What can you do to help them prosper?
From grasses, ferns and orchids to trees, over 400 unique and
beautiful plant species are listed as threatened in Tasmania and the
chances are there’s one in your local patch of bush! The Tasmanian
Threatened Plant Action Group, in conjunction with DPIW will be
hosting 2 free workshops in July and August to skill up community
groups who may be working with rare and threatened plant species.
The first workshop will focus on the staff expertise and web-based
resources available to community groups who may be working with
threatened plants. For example, the Natural Values Atlas is a valuable
resource that can help you find what threatened species may be in your
patch of bush. It can be used to search for information on more than
20 000 plant and animal species in Tasmania, and can display maps
showing their location. It also allows users to record their own
observations, which may assist planning and decision making for
threatened species. This workshop will also cover legislation, permits
and the information and resources available to groups working with
threatened plants.
The second workshop will focus on field-based skills such as plant
identification, using a GPS, recording plant population information
and identifying threats and management issues.
The workshops will run from 9:30 to 12:30pm on Saturday the 26th of
July and Saturday the 23rd of August in Hobart, and all day on October
the 4th in Devonport. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided.
