I'm happy to work on this design some more, but I'm also willing to go
an entirely different (or a  more stylized) direction.  I do worry
about literalist logos, as they tend to limit the views impression of
the scope of the group (i.e. there are no mosses represented in the
logo, therefore we are not concerned with threatened mosses, etc.).
It sounds silly, but people can be very literal.

A few porints:

The "plant" on the letter T is supposed to be a grass seed head and
stalk - which I think reads very poorly at the moment (very rough
sketch stage).

Jenny, prior to seeing the above, mentioned an Euphrasias as an iconic
plant and I will likely substitute one for the "daisy" on the letter
P.  I'll also substitute a threatened greenhood for the more common
species I used in the original sketch.

The gum leaves are from a Cider Gum.

I also wonder about the typeface.  A forward slant implies dynamism,
serif fonts imply traditionalism, while san-serif fonts are more
modern looking, etc.  So, can people think about what style of type we
might use (assuming we stick with a logo which includes type)?

Cheers,
Lori

Hi Lori,
Personally I like the design, as it represents 4 diverse types of
plants and, although you said it's silly, I'd be surprised if we had a
problem with moss enthusiasts feeling left out. There is only one
threatened moss anyway (that is listed). But perhaps the lichen
enthusiasts will feel left out, as there's about 30 listed lichens.
However I wouldn't worry about that! If you can incorporate it,
something representing Tassie would be good - as South Australia also
has a TPAG. Either the text saying TPAG TAS, or a map of tassie in the
design or something. Otherwise we can just say Threatened Plant Action
Group "Tasmania" - in the text below the design. I like the daisy, but
if you want to replace it with a Euphrasia go ahead! I don't have an
opinion on the font, whatever you think looks best.

PS. I just forwarded your email to the whole group
(tpa...@googlegroups.com - because
threatenedpla...@gmail.com is just me.)

Cheers,
Jen
