I just bought a 1905 toy piano, 16 key,s by schoenhut. Two of the keys stick a bit when played, which is frustrating. Other than that..all works well. Does anyone know how to fix the sticky key problem ?? Thanks ...

It depends on what you mean by sticking. I have a relatively new (379M) Schoenhut baby grand one. I would not say the keys stick, but at one time I had to press some of them down quite hard and briskly to get them to sound. The problem is that the keys did not go down far enough, and that was because the board across the front, with the Schoenhut name, etc. on it was too close to the key tops. I fixed that by raising that panel slightly by placing a thin shim (from a business card) between the panel and the board underneath it.

Now a 1905 Schoenhut may be constructed completely differently from mine. Mine has metal tone rods, and I understand earlier ones used metal bars, something like the bars of a glockenspiel. I have never actually seen one. You might get in touch with Renee Trinca, CEO of Schoenhut and ask her advice.

I mean that when I press the key..it does not come back very promptly. It will stay down and pop up after a jiggle or two...

Can you take this piano apart? I have never seen the one you have.
My guess it that there may just be dust, dirt, or dead bugs interfering with the action and all you need do is clean it.
If you are unlucky, something might be bent or broken, but if it is anything like the new ones, that is unlikely.

I still suggest you get in touch with Renee Trinca at Schoenhut. She may be able to help you.

Sure. Just file down the sides of the hammers that are rubbing against each other.

You might wish to examine the mechanism first. It might be that the
pivots are out of alignment (bent?) or the "bearings" are worn. The
"bearings" are not really anything like in the axle of a bicycle or
anything, but just whatever supports the axis around which the key operates.
