Knowing a few legal basics can make the difference between watching
your work on the big screen or seeing your big dreams go up in smoke.
Legal issues arise in every aspect of film production.
This workshop, led by media and entertainment lawyer Laura Possessky,
is designed to teach film professionals about key legal issues and
concepts to navigate common legal problems and to determine when legal
counsel may become necessary. Core concepts of copyright, contracts
and business law will be covered.
This is an interactive program with class exercises and discussions.
Participants are encouraged to submit requests for discussion topics
in advance and to come to the workshop with questions.

working with a small DV camera and basic lighting and sound equipment?

Adelman, will help you get great visuals and decent sound. You will
learn the basics of 3-point lighting, good framing, and how to produce
good sound -- all using the most basic tools available.

off the page in a festival catalogue? Does the website for your film
make someone want to spend more than 10 seconds on it? While a great
documentary requires attention to art and craft, even the best made
documentary will gather dust if there is no attention to marketing.
This interactive workshop, led by Docs In Progress Executive Director
Erica Ginsberg will help you develop your promotional skills. We will
look at real-world examples and also call on participants to share
your pitches, websites, and promotional materials for feedback from
the instructor and fellow participants.
