Maryland Film Festival
November 6–7, 2026
Palace Theatre — Frostburg, Maryland
The Mountain Maryland Film Festival welcomes independent filmmakers of all backgrounds, including high school, college, and graduate-level students, emerging creators, and working professionals.
We are seeking distinctive and compelling short films in the following genres:
• Narrative
• Documentary
• Animation
Selected works will be curated into Student and Non-Student screening blocks, followed by audience engagement and filmmaker Q&A sessions.
Awards will be presented for:
• Best Narrative
Short
• Best Documentary Short
• Best Animated Short
• Best Student Film
• Audience Choice Award
Located in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland, the Mountain Maryland Film Festival takes place at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Frostburg.
Now in its third year, MMFF continues to grow as a platform for student and independent filmmakers. Always in furtherance of our mission - “To bring filmmakers and audiences together to celebrate storytelling, creativity, and community through film" - the festival creates meaningful connections between artists and audiences.
Through curated short film blocks, filmmaker Q&As, and community engagement, MMFF fosters discovery, dialogue, and creative exchange in a welcoming, small-town setting.
We invite distinctive voices from around the world to share work that challenges, entertains, moves, and inspires.
The festival does not pay screening fees for short films.

Rules & Terms
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
• Films must have
been completed in 2021 or later
• Minimum runtime: 3 minutes
• Maximum runtime: 20 minutes
• Foreign language films must include English subtitles
• Single episodes of web series ARE eligible
• Films currently available online ARE eligible
• Submit as either Student or Non-Student category
