REMEMBER WHEN THE US GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED IRAN INCLUDING THE "ATOMS FOR PEACE" NUCLEAR PROGRAM?

Early US involvement in Iran primarily served its own interests, leading to negative consequences for the Iranian people and the region.

The United States supported the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, from the 1953 overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh until the 1979 Islamic Revolution. During this period, the U.S. provided military aid, supported the Shah's nuclear ambitions through the Atoms for Peace program in 1957, and offered technical assistance and economic aid. The U.S. also helped strengthen Iranian governmental functions by providing advisors for taxes, customs, and price controls between 1942-1945. Additionally, in 1983, the U.S. assisted Tehran in identifying and taking measures against the communist Tudeh Party and pro-Soviet cadres, which led to their virtual elimination.
