Dear President and board members,

This mail is with regard to the RETCAM matching grant proposal. As I had mentioned in a previous board meeting (the one prior to the last), one of my patients, A retired Emeritus professor from IIT, Dr. Viswanatha Raghavan, had come  forward to contribute some money towards procurement of the RETCAM. He had donated ten lakhs which was kept as a corpus fund in our trust. As I had mentioned earlier he had agreed for me to use it as part of our club contribution, considering the paucity of our club funds to facilitate the matching grant proposal. I was given to understand by KC that at the previous board meeting, which I could not attend, there was an unanimous decision not to go ahead for the matching grant proposal at the present time, since the club cannot meet half of the monthly expenditure which would amount to roughly 50,000 to 60,000 Rs.(I had come forward to take care of the other half).

Mr. Raghavan when he met me specifically for this purpose two days ago, was kept abreast of this info by me. He has expressed his willingness to take care of the other half for the next two years and has sent me an email which he has requested me to forward to you all. I am doing the same.

I hope we can have a healthy discussion on the feasibility of this project in the forthcoming next board meeting.

It is true that I have a vested interest in the project as it is my brain child but I have a vested interest in our club too.... I feel if we get this matching grant proposal through, it will be a
milestone in our club's history.

With warm regards
Vasumathy

Dear Dr Vasumathy:

Thanks for sending me the project proposal for the RETCAM which you have submitted to your rotary club. You could include as discussed my contribution of ten lakhs (already sent to you) as your club contribution.

You have mentioned that your club is finding it difficult to shoulder half of the monthly maintenance requirement.   The full amount comes to about Rs One lakh twentyfive thousand. You mentioned that you are agreeable to shoulder the other half.  If that is the constraint for sending a matching grant proposal then I am ready to contribute half of the actual monthly maintenance expenses (subject to a maximum of Rs. 62500) for at least two years.

A good project like this once started will find ways and means to sustain itself.

With warm regards

V Raghavan
