I'm having an issue with our companies Windows image in that it does not handle the audio drivers properly and I cannot install them correctly to get them to work. The core issue is that the headphone jack will not recognize headphones when plugged in unless you restart with the headphones plugged in and don't remove them. The instant you remove them, it will not recognize them again until you restart with them plugged in.

On some computers, the Waves Maxx Audio program will interfere with audio recording on devices that use the Andrea Audio Commander driver. Follow these steps to disable the pre-installed Waves Maxx Audio service.

seems like you have 3 or 4 audio drivers involved. i doubt this has anything to do with Cakewalk. i suggest uninstalling or disabling every audio driver except the default Windows WASAPI drivers. then test. and if that works, then use WASAPI Shared with CW to allow it to cross-operate with other audio apps. skip the ASIO4ALL, VoiceMeeter, etc as they're often problematic if not properly configured.

As Glen has pointed out. WASAPI is the best choice for an audio driver when using on board audio. It has made those other bandaid drivers obsolete.
Of coarse you should use the Focusrite ASIO drivers when in use.

I was able to get speakers working, and then uninstalling a stray Waves MaxxAudio Pro driver under Device Manager -> Other Devices -> Waves Audio Device Component made my audio jack work again it seems.

Thank you! This problem was making me go mad. I had searched the web for weeks trying to find a solution. Updating the Realtek audio driver to 6.0.1.8142 (date 5/8/2017) solved the problem for me. Good job!

I'm still interest to see whether other XPS 8930 sold in Australia came with or without that software. From my communication with Dell Support so far it gives me the impression that there may be a compatibility issue with MaxxAudio, Realtek audio chip and driver in a particular production batch. It's possible they fixed the problem now and resumed shipping MaxxAudio with new deliveries. In that case I'm the unlucky customer who bought the computer without the "premium sound" feature they advertised.

Still, this morning I got a call from their on-site technician trying to book a time for the service, I explained to him that I did not believe going through all those troubles would fix the problem and cancelled the booking. Half an hour later I received a call from Dell Support, after checking my computer had the correct Realtek audio driver he quickly showed me how to open MaxxAudio by Cortana search, it was in the system but not shown in any menu nor directories.

Dell Latitude 3510, with no working audio. Windows 10 Pro, with Webroot AV. Removed and reinstalled the audio drivers and all software associated. No errors detected in device manager (Realtek Audio, Intel Smart Sound Technology, Intel Display audio). Troubleshooter takes me to a screen "The device you are configuring has been removed". Then it says "Audio services not responding". Not fixed. Curious why 2 of the 3 audio components are Intel? If I uninstall the Realtek, it discovers an Intel High Definition Audio... but Windows updates then installs the Realtek driver. This has to be related. We installed one driver from Intel (That mentions Realtek) and during the installation the audio starts to work! But then the driver install fails, and the audio no longer works. The failure is "No supported devices found". So we know 100% the speakers work and it is a driver issue. The client does NOT want Windows 11. We have aggressively tested for malware... Type PuP Optional.Wave (Removed)

Yes, we already tried those drivers (Windows optional). Multiple times in fact. The client isn't sure exactly when the audio stopped working. We have had a few days already, so unrelated to any monthly windows updates.

Assuming you don't have a speaker icon yet in the taskbar go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound (If you do have a speaker icon simply right-clcik on it and choose Sounds)

Check your Playback tab
Can you describe or post a screenshot of the contents?

Just for reference & in case you need to clean up your Realtek installs that didn't work there's a handy scrubber tool that you can use to check there's nothing left or you can also use to remove all Realtek (audio) traces:

Download DDU from here and unpack
-driver-uninstaller-download
Launch Display Driver Uninstaller
Click OK to the Scary "this will ruin everything" warning!
On the settings page uncheck everything except making a system restore point.
Don't worry about using Safe Mode at this stage
In the dropdowns on the right of the window select Device Type = Audio, Select Device = Realtek (WIP)
Click Clean and restart
Now reinstall the Realtek audio driver and Wave Maxx

However, there are a couple of methods that can help reduce or eliminate the problem. In this guide, you will find 4 steps that should help you fix this. Some people found that simply updating the audio drivers did the job. Others managed to reduce CPU consumption by disabling the Waves Audio Service altogether.

Waves MaxxAudio Service belongs to the Waves Maxx Audio application that is used to enhance the audio performance of a system. It comes preinstalled or enabled with pre-built systems that use Wave audio drivers. Mostly, you can find the Waves MaxxAudio driver on Dell laptops.

This issue mainly occurs when there is a problem with the Waves Maxx audio driver or its services. Furthermore, when users attempt to disable the service to prevent high CPU or memory usage, Windows stops recognizing the audio devices, which also becomes another issue for them.

The Waves Maxx Audio service application needs to communicate with the audio driver in order to produce high-quality sound. Since the Waves Maxx Audio service application is consuming high computing resources, it is possible that the audio driver is corrupted, resulting in a lack of communication.

Therefore, we recommend that you either try using the Windows generic audio driver or update the Waves audio driver. The generic audio driver is a default Windows driver and will work perfectly with your audio device.

Since this problem may be related to the audio driver, we can try restoring the audio drivers to the previous version using the System Restore utility. System Restore allows users to capture the current state into a restore point, so when something unexpected happens, users can revert to the previous version.
