The Polish community in New York has invited through Jude Elie the Haitian community to participate in the annual parade offered by the Polish Diaspora in New York on October 5th on Fifth Ave. Indeed the relationship of Haiti with Poland dated since 1802 when the Polish contingent sent by Napoleon Bonaparte with his expedition defected and fight with the Haitians against the French soldiers.
In recognition of this bravura, Jean Jacques Dessalines gave two pieces of land to the Poles situated in the village of Cazale and Fonds de Blancs. Generations of Haitian- Polish have survived and are now fully integrated in the Haiti landscape.
A contingent of Haitians with national costume will participate formally in the parade to mark the beginning of a stronger relationship between Poland and Haiti.
