Good morning all!  Happy Sunday, First day of an uncertain week in today’s troubled environment!

Haitians everywhere, time to seriously think about returning home!

Haitians, we do have a country that could be the envy of many a nation in the whole wide world.

Instead of idolizing someone else’s country, be proud of that wonderful and valuable piece of land, we had the good fortune of coming from or of having been born in.

There is plenty of barren land in Haiti that is waiting to be developed.

This, in all of Haiti’s 11 departments, 140 communes and 573 communal sections.

Can’t you/we Haitians all over the globe realize that Haiti is still is a viable country much nicer to live in than where you/we are living abroad now?

Just as the actual President of the Mighty United States of America is fighting hard to clean out America of all brownish people, Haiti is waiting for you/us “disoriented, confused and unsettled” to return Home, our true home where a tiny minority of no good sons of bitches are terrorizing its population which, seems too cowardly and resigned.

Palestinians have neither a land nor a country!  They have been fighting to acquire one or to be given a piece of land to build one since 1948 and counting!

Haïti is a nation even more so than that tiny nation in the middle east which is overtly committing genocide on a suffering people.  For What?  To feel and give the impression they have a homeland or that they are better/greater!  My royal and cardinal foot!

Let all of us Haitians everywhere kick ourselves in our lazy behinds and start seriously thinking about going back home to Haiti/Ayiti/Aïti to make her a more viable land and a much better alternative to retire rather than staying in those friendly but today decaying over-developed societies we’ve been living in for the past 65 or so years.

Many Haitian people are worried sick about living the foreign nation, they are now residing.  Why?

Let’s us take a moment to reflect and finally appreciate what we Haitians have and that our Ancestors had bravely and proudly fought to carve out for us and make it our homeland, in fact, our real home.

Haïtiennement, patriotiquement, and pass to your audiences,

Serge (SPP) pour les intimes.

The American housing market is in a deep freeze—even lower prices aren’t enough to convince stubborn buyers

housing market activity is tiny.
•    the american new home market is cooling, with softer sales, higher inventory, and falling prices reflecting the current slowdown.
the latest new residential sales report (june 2025) from the u.s. census bureau shows that the u.s. housing market is experiencing a slowdown in new single-family home sales, while inventory and supply have increased, and prices are declining.
as buyers balk at high home prices and mortgage rates that continue to approach 7%, a recent oxford economics report predicts more pain ahead. concerns about the economy and job security mean many would-be new purchasers are opting to make do with modest home improvements instead.
advertisement
increased new home sales often indicate strong consumer confidence, greater employment, and accessible financing. conversely, declines suggest waning buyer interest, affordability issues, or economic stress.
“there’s no question that in many of pockets of the sun belt—the epicenter of u.s. single-family homebuilding—buyers have gained a considerable amount of leverage this year and the market has softened,” resiclub editor-in-chief lance lambert told fortune intelligence.
“in order to keep sales volumes steady, big homebuilders have compressed margins further and done bigger incentives or outright price cuts. lennar is spending the equivalent of 13.3% of final sales price on incentive, like mortgage rate buydowns,” lambert noted, up from 1.5% at the height of the pandemic housing boom in the second quarter of 2022. in normal times, lambert pointed out, lennar spends 5% to 6% on buyer sales incentives. (lennar is ranked no. 129 on the fortune 500.)
key points from the report:
•    new home sales: sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 627,000 in june 2025. this is only 0.6% higher than may 2025, but 6.6% lower than june 2024, indicating a notable year-over-year decline in buying activity.
•    inventory: at the end of june, there were 511,000 new houses for sale, a 1.2% increase from may 2025 and an 8.5% increase from june 2024. this rise in inventory suggests that homes are staying on the market longer.
•    months’ supply: the supply of homes relative to the sales rate is now at 9.8 months, up from 9.7 months in may 2025 and 8.4 months in june 2024. a higher months’ supply figure generally indicates a slower market with more supply than demand.
•    prices: the median sales price for new homes in june 2025 was $401,800, which is 4.9% lower than may 2025 and 2.9% lower than june 2024. the average sales price was $501,000, down from the previous month but slightly higher than a year ago. this points to downward pressure on prices, likely due to rising inventory and decreased demand.
what it means:
•    the combination of dropping sales, rising inventory, and declining prices indicates a market with weaker demand and increased supply.
•    these conditions are often seen when buyers are constrained (e.g., by high mortgage rates or economic uncertainty), or homebuilders have ramped up production in anticipation of higher demand that didn’t fully materialize.
•    the elevated months’ supply metric—at almost 10 months—suggests a buyer’s market, where purchasers have more negotiating power and sellers may need to lower prices to attract buyers.
advertisement
a new home is defined by the u.s. census bureau as a single-family house that is being sold for the first time. since new home sales are recorded early in the sales process, trends in new home sales can signal coming shifts in the broader housing market, forecasting changes before they appear in existing home sales data.

Conclusion: Le choix de l’histoire

To:

To all, FYI

From the files 15 years ago.

The same players who were leading the government of Haiti back then are back at it again: They are now running the country in the form of 9 simultaneous "presidents" with absolute dictatorial power. They are threatening to change the constitution of the country and revert it back to that dreadful form of papadoctile government (ref: Papa Doc 1964 referendum), They are doing it despite the ban by the current constitution against the sinful practice. They are doing it despite the objection of the majority of the population.  .

Mr Albert Ramdin (see my email dated March 20, 2020) is back in a more position of power. He is now the OAS Secretary General. He has already expressed his support for a referendum in Haiti. That is outrageously unbelievable. Where is the respect for the Haitian constitution by international conventions? For the international community, when it comes to Haiti, "constitution se paye, bayonet sed fer"

The saying goes like : "Some things never change".
People never change either.

What we saw in 2010 is exactly what we are seeing in 2025

Subject: 10th Anniversary of the OAS Haitian Forum of March 21, 2010 ; Controversy surrounding the selection of the Diaspora Representatives at the Donors' conference.
To...

Dear all,

There were many intricacies among US Diaspora leaders competing for supremacy after the earthquake. Here follows an account based upon my conversations with Mr. Lafortune. I learned from him about the dynamics among the players back then, the crucial role that he himself had played in the holding of the conference at the OAS, and the deception that he would endure.

To be brief, the Diaspora Forum was far from being held in the US. Right after the earthquake, Canada was very aggressive at helping Haiti. The Haitian Diaspora in Canada was quickly organizing itself with the founding of a new stellar organization (GRAHN) that has already held a huge inaugural conference in Montreal on March 4, 5, attended by an imposing Haitian Government delegation led by then Haiti's prime minister Jean Max Bellerive. And prior to that, on January 25, the government of Canada (with Haitian-born Michaelle Jean at the helm as Governor) held a gathering of Foreign Ministers and Aid organizations in what Hillary Clinton, then in attendance, called "the beginning of a conversation about the future of Haiti" in advance of the Donor's Conference in New York. Still, Diaspora Canada was also lobbying to organize the Diaspora Forum for the reconstruction of Haiti in advance of the Donor's Conference.

The intervention of Jean Robert Lafortune.

One of the key regional leaders of the Haitian Diaspora in the US (Miami based Grassroots Coalition), Mr Lafortune was the one who intervened to the OAS folks and convinced them that by virtue of the sheer number of Haitians living in the US and the fact that Diaspora Canada had already held those aforementioned events,  it was more practical and more logical to hold the conference in the US, particularly since nothing has been done yet for the US Haitian Diaspora after the earthquake. Irene Kingler passed the message to Ambassador Albert Rambdin, who quickly agreed to host the event at the OAS. Nonetheless, Diaspora Canada came in, participated in the workshop sessions and made their contributions to the recommendations. Additional input from Diaspora Canada were referenced in the Consolidated Recommendations,  Workshop#1, other recommendations, section 10d under "Recommendations put together by the Montreal Diaspora can be found at www.grahn.net" .

For his long time leadership role, Jean Robert Lafortune, a well respected figure in the Diaspora, was selected along with Munir Moura to be the representatives of the Diaspora at the Donor's conference.

Coup d'état ?

Enter a big time player, another regional leader of the Haitian Diaspora in the US with strong clout in Washington, DC. After intervening to outfox (or to push out) the two designated representatives, he then selected himself and a conference speaker at the Forum to represent the Diaspora at the Donors' conference: Lafortune was crushed. It was very hurtful to him. I take the liberty to share with you his email (below) in response to my inquiry about a subject and in which he deferred answers to the "two individuals who volunteered themselves to address the Foreign Donors...". I highlight it in bold in the text. The brother never recovered from that disillusionment. He passed away six months ago after a long illness partly attributed to emotional stresses that he endured during his involvement in Diaspora affairs. A sad ending for a man known to have sacrificed himself (and his family) repeatedly over the years for Haitians in the Krome Detention Center in Miami when no one else would. May his soul continue to rest in peace!

Meanwhile, how did the "two individuals who volunteered themselves" fare in their representation of the Haitian Diaspora at the Donors' conference in New York? This upcoming 31st day of March marks the 10th anniversary of that big event in New York. Ah! Do you remember?

Food for thought and discussions.
Have a blessed day!

Subject: Re: : Haiti Reconstruction Conference by the State Department on September 8, 2011

Dear Mr. Bayas:

As expressed in my original communication to the group, I was contacted by a staff from the U.S State Department regarding an upcoming conference being held September 8th, 2011 in Washington DC.  In a couple of meetings held in Miami last year with the U.S Vice-President and other meetings held via teleconference with high officials from the State Department, Haitian-American Leaders have several times requested for the Administration to go beyond its rethorics and include the Haitian Diaspora in the Haiti Reconstruction Process.  To my knowledge, I am not aware that this Agency had a prior dialog with members of the Haitian Diaspora regarding the mechanism being put in place to guide Haitian-American Entrepreneurs and others from the civil society organizations to seriously engage in the Haiti Reconstruction process.   This past January 2011, in a meeting with the White House, as part of the discussion to advocate for the inclusion of the Haitian Diaspora in the process, I recalled the intervention of Mr. Lionel Jean-Baptiste from the Haitian Congress stating that it was now time for qualified Haitian-Americans to seat at the other side of the table and being part of the decision-making.  All I can say, whenever possible in our dialog with the Administration, my colleagues and I have not shied away to demand for inclusion of the Haitian Diaspora in the Haiti Reconstruction process.  We gave the Administration the best advice as we can and when we can as a group.  Ultimately they are the ones that decide when to open the door and set their meeting agenda.  Even though the Administration took long to respond to our request to address concerns related with the Haiti Reconstruction, at this time the door is open and it is up to each individual or organization to participate in that process.  I do hope that you will be there for the discussions.

I was not contacted nor had I any input in setting the topic or materials for discussion for the September 8th, 2011 meeting.  Regarding some of the issues you raised in your correspondence, I unfortunately am not in a good position to provide a satisfactory answer.

Regarding your last question referring to the 25% set aside of the U.S Haiti Reconstruction Funds to be allocated to the Haitian Diaspora to implement project/activities during the discussions held last year at the OAS/Haitian Diaspora Forum, the two individuals who volunteered themselves to address the Foreign Donors at the U.N  Haiti Donors Conference did not apparently bring this issue to the table as one of the key demands of the Haitian Diaspora at the end of the OAS Haitian Diaspora Forum.  I would suggest that you address this issue to those individuals.  I am not certain either if they had addressed the issues you raised here off the record. I understand your frustration regarding the process but again we are still evolving in unchartered territory.  As an analyst puts it recently, we have a bad habit of nurturing too much expectations when dealing with Haiti.

As for the follow-up regarding the OAS Haitian Diaspora Forum, I have been in contact with the OAS Department of International Affairs and the Office of the OAS Assistant General to hold them accountable for the promise of holding an annual conference; I was told that without a government in place in Haiti, there is not much they can do in pursuing with some of the recommendations taken at the gathering last year.  It appears that the organization may not have enough resources to co-convene similar gatherings.

As a professional, we do salute your commitment and desire to see positive changes taking place in our homeland through a collective efforts for Haiti to reach its age of real renaissance.

Sincerely,

Jean-Robert Lafortune, MS
HAGC Chairman

Dear all,

The gathering at the OAS lasted 3 days (March 21-23) and saw a number of folks at taking turn to the podium. A significant absence : Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who was scheduled to address the conference but did not come. Rather than coming, she sent a message virtually (via video) although she was located at the State Department, just a mile away from us. Forget about getting a visit from Barack Obama, the first US black president whom Haitian Americans voted for so overwhelmingly two years before. 500+ Haitians still grieving over a catastrophe that happened in their country and in soul searching half mile away from his residence. Patrick Gaspar came and spoke. And Marie St Fleur electrified the room in the keynote address. But the last Haitian speaker at the conference is the one that impressed me the most. His name was Jean Robert Lafortune.(de regrette memoire).

From the moment he took to the podium, you can feel that he was different; a heavyweight activist with a deep voice tinted with blunt truthfulness. That quickly vibrated with my civil rights impulses and I started to applaud the brother. During a pause in his presentation, I approached him and made the suggestion for the OAS to consider an annual gathering of the Diaspora in order to monitor progress on the recommendations that we made in the workshop sessions. He welcomed the suggestion and indeed made the request to the OAS Ambassador Albert Ramdin, who promptly accepted ( see attachment OAS offers to host annual meeting of the Haitian Diaspora).

Later on, it was announced that the Haitians would convene downstairs on their own initiative (meaning that the OAS was not involved) at the founding of an organization. We went ìndeed and found three gentlemen leading the charge about the modalities for setting up the organization. There was a tense moment of an exchange between one of the three gentlemen and an attorney from the attendance who was skeptical of their intentions and of the whole thing. But in the end, the federation was voted in favor of.

I would later clash with people for not having kept their words on those two activities:

1) Despite my repeated pressure (applied to Rambdin through Lafortune) on the first anniversary of the conference, the OAS never hosted the annual meeting as promised to the Haitian Diaspora. I began to be very resentful of Ramdin.
2) With respect to the Haitian Diaspora Federation, I first became a fervent member. I made the trip to accompany them in their presentation at New York University. But I gradually grew frustrated and disillusioned with their lethargy and lack of action. I left the organization after a dispute over the exclusion of the Diaspora in the planning process for the reconstruction of Port-au-Prince.  I realized that the skepticism of the discordant attorney mentioned above was perhaps justified. Indeed, things would later go astray in that organization. In the end, the top brass officers ended up going after each other like children in a public forum. Finally the affair ended up in the courts! In all this drama, the big loser ended up being the Haitian Diaspora : It was robbed of a voice in the reconstruction of their country (I will explain later).

Imagine the Haitian Diaspora Federation holding that first annual meeting at the OAS whereby Haitian economists, engineers, accountants, etc. from Haiti would come to DC to meet with their counterparts from the Diaspora to review progress on the consolidated recommendations, sort out discrepancies about the reconstruction, about the 13 billion dollars collected in the name of Haiti, and about the Petro-Caribe funds? A lot of things that happened later with those funds would have never happened. Preval , Martelly and their acolytes would have not been able to do as much damages.

Food for thought and reflection.
Have a blessed day.

Dear all,

Here is a beautiful text by Max Dorismond to reinforce our point. Not only they (Rene Preval and Michel Martelly) had the power, they also had the means and the methods to change the living conditions of Haiti once and for all after the earthquake. A lot of die-hard Haitians sacrificed their time and devoted themselves wholly to the cause of pulling Haiti out of the hole. But that was not meant to be.

Two unconscionable presidents and their acolytes, in their own selfishness, would cause Haiti to sink further down into the hole to the point of now being labeled "sh'hole country". All the hard work that we did during those three memorable days at the OAS (See attached Diaspora Forum Consolidated Recommendations) turned out in vain. The time and efforts of 500+ Haitians gathering at the OAS to vie for a change in their country simply wasted.

As a consequence, the destiny of 12 million living souls continues to be in peril. Left vulnerable to the caprices of nature, the country is totally unprepared for a pandemic like the Corona Virus that is ravaging the world.

Food for thought. Have a blessed day.

21 mars 2020

Subject: 10th Anniversary of the OAS Haitian Forum of March 21, 2010 ; Where were you?
To:

To all,

The OAS Diaspora Forum for the reconstruction of Haiti was held from March 21 to March 23 in Washington, DC. I share with you some documents relative to the event. I added a copy of the document (Focus on Haiti) that I widely distributed to the attendance. As the corona virus is threatening the country and with no adequate medical facilities for the population to turn to, one must wonder what if Rene Preval and Michel Martelly had paid attention to recommendation #3 (Focus on Haiti). Imagine that Haiti would have had 10 teaching hospitals with the 4 basic specializations!!! One in each department capital. Assuming 300 beds per hospital, the country would have added about 3000 beds.

I heard that there are only 164 beds available in terms of preparation to receive for corona virus patients. Helas! "Nou sou kontt Bondye"

Food for thought
Bonne lecture
