In 2012 aviation will be included in the European Union’s Emissions Trading System. As of that date, a CO2 cap will apply to the sum total of flights starting from or bound for European airports. This is going to be the first attempt worldwide to impose politically binding rules designed to curb the rapidly increasing greenhouse gas emissions caused by aviation.

The Fact Sheet below has been developed by respect – Institute for Integrative Tourism and Development and Naturefriends with a view to submitting the inclusion of aviation into the EU climate strategy to a critical analysis.
