Panasonic Toughbook Numpty

Hi all,
I am new to this post and I am hoping I can acquire some collective
knowledge from those that have refurbished a CF-28 toughbook. I have
read many of the informative previous posts but cannot find anything
relevant to my first query.
Firstly, my knowledge with computers is fair; i.e. to the point where
I have assembled a home PC from pre-purchased components, and I can
generally fix software problems as they arise (google is also my
friend). The intended use for the toughbook is for use with GPS
mapping software in my 4wd vehicle and some MP3 music. It won't be
bloated with too much software, mainly Oziexplorer mapping software
and just lots of digital maps.
BUT So Far:
The toughbook, appears to be a whole new level of challenge for me,
components are smaller, etc etc. I am probably lacking some self-
confidence at this stage but I want to give it a go. The story so far:
I have purchased a CF-28 toughbook 800Mhz processor, 512mb Ram in very
good condition (ex-military with little use judging by its external
condition). Unfortunately though, it has no HDD, so before I embark on
my journey to get this operational, I was after some recommendations
on what works best in the CF-28 range of toughbooks. I am steering
towards purchasing a Fujitsu 80GB HDD (is this suitable). I will
consider all suggestions. I also have a new HDD-caddy ready to go, but
to be honest I am a little confused on its assembly. I have also read
that the HDDs are to be encapsulated in GEL. How have others done
this, if at all. Any photos would be great including how this actually
fits into the body.
Eventually, once I have the HDD and caddy in place, my next step will
be installing XP Pro. I may be after more advice once I start the
software, drivers, bios installation, but first I need to sought out
the HDD.
