Hello Team,

Second item I need from everyone before I am able to register the team.

We are required to submit an average pace which we will be held to during the race. It is not extremely strict as the race officials understand that some teammates are faster than others but they will make us slow down or kick us out of the race if we are too fast or too slow  based on our submitted pace.

To determine a team pace, Ragnar asks you to submit an average 10K pace for the full team. I understand that everyone has not run a 10K (6.2 mile) recently so you can also just double your 5K (3.1 mile) time. Please bear in mind that during races you generally run faster than anytime you trained due to adrenaline and fully running to exertion, and because the race is staggered based on times, I think trying to hit a certain time should be our ultimate goal.

Also remember that not everyone has to hit the goal because we will be at different levels. (i.e. with a goal of 9 minutes per mile, half the team could run 8.5 minute miles and the other half could run 9.5 minute miles)

We can do this two ways.
1. Everyone can submit a 10K time to me and I can calculate an average
2. We can weigh in on this forum what the overall goal should be

Either way, everyone should have a say in this matter because this will be the team goal.

Please help the team out and speak up in the next day or so as you think through what you personally want to accomplish and how that translates to everyone else.

Kent, Brooks and I discussed this a little last night we also need to put into consideration we will be running up a mountain the first half.. I think if we put between 9.5 and 10 that should cover us to not get kicked off the course, we should obviously try for faster but that is my opinion :)

That seems like a pretty good balance I think, but it's hard to know what everyone's times are. It might be good to avg out our times just to make sure we're being realistic. If we don't feel totally comfortable sharing our times with everyone we can just individually email Forrest, I trust him not to judge :P

Also bear in mind that 11 minutes/mile is the maximum allowed.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

warning: this is coming from a novice and possibly overly optimistic runner...but train i will
