Hello Everyone,

After receiving  a final confirmation, it is time to go over the driving details for this weekend. In a moment of brilliance, teammate Max Lee suggested we utilize a single 12-15 person van as an 'active' van for both groups when they are running. When groups are on downtime and off the course, they will be using Max's generously offered six seater Tahoe. Note: Thomas is bringing the single van from Atlanta

The benefits of this system (and the Ragnar Race Director agreed) is that we can consolidate all of the food, water, coolers, running clothes, etc. into one central place into which our two groups will rotate. I have not thought it all the way through but depending on how much luggage people bring, we may put all down-time/comfortable clothes and sleeping materials into the SUV for each team's spa time.

The vans will be switched off at each major exchange (6,12,18,24,30) where we should have some time to move items around and let the new running team jump in the van. Please note that the handoff from Max to Thomas and Pate to Duncan will have to continue seamlessly so Thomas and Duncan will need to be prepared to run directly out of the SUV.

If anyone has any questions regarding the system outlined above please reply on this forum or reach out to me directly.

As noted above, Thomas is bringing the van out of Atlanta. This is for several reasons:
  1. There are no 12-person vans in Birmingham - Ever
  2. Vans are cheapest out of Atlanta
  3. Thomas is 25 and can get the van on Friday morning, saving us a full day from having to rent on Thursday night

So basically we only have to rent one Van from the cheapest city for one day less than we thought. Wahoo! Spend the extra money on beer!

Unfortunately this means that the first section of Group 1s run will be have to be completed in Max's SUV which y'all are driving up from Birmingham. I apologize for this inconvenience but this was really the only way things could work out. Because you will be in the SUV during these first few legs (1-6) I suggest you bring food and drinks for your team up in the SUV and we will consolidate into the Van at Exchange 6.

As a reminder, please text with your group today or tomorrow and determine who is bringing which supplies. Do not assume someone else is bringing you the items that will preserve your life this weekend.

Fellow Ragnarites,

I hope you've all returned home safely, clear-headed and open-hearted.  My van drive home, in gentle solitude after so many hours of mayhem, was a long and painful one.  Between tweaking joints, lurching digestive organs, and a constantly beating headache, the ability to focus on the road was limited.  But physical pain is relative, and always fades quickly.  Left alone to my thoughts, I found the comfortable sadness of the lonely traveler, missing his fellow Ragnarians.

You all made wonderful companions for this moronic excuse for a vacation.  I will feel this trip long after the stiff stabs of overworked muscles retires for good.

Much love from the Captain, hope to see you all soon...

Love,
Thomas
