Hi Andrew,

A couple of questions -

  1. There is no brown door on the usb board where the wide ribbon connects to it.

( See attached pic ). I checked in the little plastic bag that contains the extra ribbon, tape etc., but the small brown door is not there either.  For the time being I have connected the wide ribbon anyway, but I will definitely need a more secure connection, so that the set-up is sturdy enough to travel for shows etc. !

2.   -  I plan to install the Touchkeys on the top half of my midi keyboard, and leave the bottom half as it is.

My question is - After I finish installing Touchkeys on the keyboard, will I be able to use both halves of the midi kybd in the same DAW, or will the lower half of the keyboard become useless ?

The doubt arises because the Touchkeys  Manual says ( 2.2 Synth Set-up, point 1 ) -  Important: the DAW should not receive MIDI directly from the keyboard on which the TouchKeys are installed.

I should mention, in case it is relevant, that the only power source for this midi kybd ( M-Audio Keystudio 49)  is its native usb port, which also functions as its sole midi port.

I was under the impression that I would be able to use the lower half simultaneously, ie. the keyboard’s usb midi port and the touchkeys usb midi port would both be able to send midi signals to the DAW.

Please clarify on both questions. Thx!

  Hi Andrew,

In continuation of my previous question, regarding the usage of my entire keyboard range even with touchkeys installed only on the top half of the keyboard - I'm unable to understand exactly how the touchkeys software will read the keys that dont have any sensors on them ? What would be the signal path of the keys with no sensors on them ?

I have pasted the previous question & answer (on gmail) here below for reference.

Thx !

Hi Kem,

You can still use the whole keyboard post-TouchKeys. Any keys that don't have touch sensors on them will get passed through with no extra control on the notes, i.e. they will still function as normal. You should continue to use the TouchKeys program as your data source, even for those keys. If you want to create a more elaborate setup, you can use the Zones feature in the TK software to route different parts of the keyboard to different places, with different mappings and/or transpositions.

Best wishes,
Andrew

Hi Kem,

The TouchKeys software will take in data not only from the TouchKeys sensors but from your MIDI keyboard, which should also be hooked up to the computer. So those keys that don't have sensors on them will still work through the MIDI from the keyboard.

The reason you should route everything through the TouchKeys software is that you can (if you want) send the notes with and without sensors to different MIDI ports, and give them different transpositions, mappings, etc. Or if you are operating TouchKeys in polyphonic mode, where each note gets its own channel, then those notes without sensors will still receive their own channels so everything works together cleanly.

Best wishes,
Andrew
