Make certain all other calendars on device are active and updated and syncing?

Suddenly the app has stopped consistently displaying changes in my calendar. From time to time it works but then will stop updating. Refresh does nothing.
Due to this I can't rely on the calender anymore. Please can you advise how to fix this?
I've tried both reinstalling and upgraded to the paid version. Neither has worked.
