The whole book is a compilation of the characteristics of the Warrior of Light. What is the war? It is the life. What is this light? It is the divine guidance in life. The warrior gives in his all in order to accomplish what he wants from life. This manual is exactly that- a manual that shows one how to traverse the path of life like a true warrior who never gives up. Perhaps, Paulo Coelho, after writing a lot many allegorical books that the reader needs to decipher to find the message hidden within, decided that once, let me offer some straight messages that prove guiding lights for lost souls. And so here it is. In a very subtle way, it reminds you of the ancient Hindu treatise, the Bhagwad Gita which is also a sermon given by Lord Krishna too warrior Arjuna on the battlefield when the latter hesitates to kill his own kin. This book also reminds you of one of the books in The Bible called Proverbs, which to the Christians is manual too.
He embraces his passions and enjoys them intensely. He knows that there is no need to renounce the pleasures of conquest; they are part of life and bring joy to all those who participate in them. But he never loses sight of those things that last or of the strong bonds that are forged over time. A warrior can distinguish between the transient and the enduring.
The fights waged by the warrior are not always with an external enemy, sometimes it is with the loved ones, sometimes with the self. Choose your fights carefully. He adapts to the changes, he knows when to stop fighting and when to persevere. He asks questions and chooses his enemies.
We may never admit it, but we all need guidance in life. Regardless of what age we are at, no matter how much of the world we have seen, for every stage in life, we need guidance at some level. Some of us are fortunate to receive them, and the rest of us look for them. We need that one ray of hope that will guide us amidst this hazy life. This book does just that. You can read it at any age, but do read it every few years. Just like the Alchemist, Paulo Coelho manages another brilliant, ageless book that reveals more than it says in its words.
