Osu Shihans Sensei's Sempai's, Kohai's and Toshindo Family and Supporters!

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SHIHAN!

Our Dojo received a very special birthday present this year!  On June
29, Toshindo turned 19 years old!

I am pleased to announce that Toshindo Karate has won "Best Kid's Karate
in Westchester 2011"!
Toshindo was chosen by Westchester Magazine -
Best of Westchester 2011 (July Issue).  This is indeed an honor for our
Dojo and for me personally as Chief Instructor.

I would personally like to thank my teaching staff for their dedicated
efforts in teaching our kids to be and do their very best every day.
Congratulations and thank you Senseis and Sempais!!! CONGRATULATIONS
TOSHINDO!!!

Please welcome new student -

Sebastian Shires

Welcome to Toshindo!

Toshindo  Schedule!

Starting on Tuesday July 5,2011 Summer schedule will be implemented and Childrens daytime classes willl be consolidated.  Classes will start at 5:15pm Monday thru Thursday.  Saturday we will still have 10:15am, 11:30am and 1pm Open Class.  All children may attend every class during the week including the Thursdays class.  This schedule will be in effect until September.  We will inform you when we will return to the normal schedule.  Thank you.

Adult classes are held on, Mondays and Wednesdays 8:15pm and Saturday 12:45pm Open Class.  All are welcomed to this class but keep in mind that it is a longer and strenuous class.

Please read below. There is some important information relevant to all youth who train at Toshindo.  Parents please read and explain to your children about the promotion policy.

Shihan has decided to expand on Promotion Requirements.  Students will now be required to pass a Pre-Test after 24 classes.  Students will receive their third stripe at 24 classes and be given an oral Pre-Test
prior to their formal test.  They will be quizzed on Japanese Vocabulary as well as the required physical skills (for example, push-ups), including demonstrating the ability to execute their techniques to Shihans and or Sensei's satisfaction.  Kata requirements will need to be fulfilled to the very best of the student's ability.  Students shall demonstrate their readiness for testing by displaying their knowledge and physical skills
in a confident manner, showing that the student has made an effort to prepare for their test.

Failure to pass the Pre-Test will result in delay of the formal testing, regardless of the number of classes attended.  Pre-Test will be repeated until satisfactory to Shihan and/or Sensei's, at which time students will
receive their Intent to Promote Letter, and formal testing can be scheduled.

The above will be in conjunction with the new Stripe policy.  See below.

Students will receive a stripe after every 8 classes, so now you will recieve 3 stripes instead of 2.  After you receive your 3rd stripe you will be given a Pre test n(see Above).
The reason for this is that we feel that there was too much time between the second stripe and  pre test without reward.  We want the children to have something to look forward too if they train hard and continuously.  This policy does not increase the minimum amount of classes needed for promotion or time requirements between belts .  I must also remind you that stripes are also earned as are your belts.  Parents please inform your children of this policy.

Parents if you have 2 or more children training, please do not ask or expect that when one child is ready to test, that the other should also.  We understand that they may be 4 + classes apart, one child may not be ready to test.  This is more noticiable when they are different belt colors.  Advanced belts require more classes for promotion.  So if you would like your children to test together make sure that they have the required amount of classes and time between belts.  If there are different belt ranks involved the one who is ready to test can wait for the other until they are ready, ( but I do not recommend this). Each student should promote at their own pace and not just simply because a sibling is promoting.

Upcoming Tournaments

Tuition was due by Tuesday July 5.  Please make every effort to make payments on time.
Tuition is due by the 5th of every month.  The month encompasses the 1st day of the month to the last day of the month.  Monthly tuition is not prorated.  Whether your child attends 4 times a month or 16 times, the fee is the same and should be paid at the beginning of the month.  Preferably the 1st class you attend of that month but no later than the 5th of that month.

If you start a month , no matter what day of the month you start, and take 1 class, you are liable for the entire months tuition.  Since we have no way of determining individual plans, it is your responsibility to see that the student attends the classes for the month.  We do not bill for individual classes.  Taking classes in any portion of a calendar month requires that Months tuition to be paid on full.

Toshindo does not require you sign extended contracts to participate but we do require that the  fee schedule is adhered to.  We believe that our prices are the most affordable around and would appreciate prompt payment so that we can continue to offer such great Training at an affordable price.  Any payment after the 5th will be subject to a late fee.  Payments for promotions are due prior to taking your promotion tests.

Thank you!

Dojo Stuff

Parents please note that if you move or get a new telephone number that we should be notified so
that we can keep accurate records.
Thank you

Students, when you arrive please put your coats and belongings in your respective dressing rooms.  We cannot have coats and bags strewn all over the rug in the dojo.
Osu all!

Lateness

We do understand that lateness sometimes cannot be helped but please make every effort to try and report for class on time.    Please know that if you arrive more than 15 min late for class that you may not be given credit for that class.  We understand that classes may run longer than scheduled, if you must leave please let an instructor know but not before 1 hour of participation.  If you leave prior to the hour of participation you may not get credit.  We understand that everyone has other responsibilities but we want to make sure that you get at least 1 hour of training in.  Thank you all!
