This popular English lullaby is beloved by little ones and parents alike. With fun hand gestures and a rich history (this lullaby actually comes from an early 19th century poem!), this is one lullaby you simply must include in bedtime fun.
"You are My Sunshine" was originally recorded by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell in 1939, and in the almost-century since, it has been covered by all sorts of artists, ranging from Bing Crosby to Johnny Cash to Chris Stapleton. Put your own spin on this melancholy classic and watch your little ones eyes fall shut.
"Love in the Dark" is a slow, sad, beautiful song from Adele, and it's probably based on a lot of what 21 was based on. Adele has said that 25 is a make-up album, as opposed to 21 which was a break-up album. However, in this song, Adele does reach back for a little of what made her famous and executes it skillfully in this song.
In the Chorus, she sings, "I can't love you in the dark." Their relationship is in a bad place for her; it leaves her with uncertainty, and she wants a relationship that's "well-lit" and has direction, purpose, or certainty. She sings about they have different purposes or personalities when she "we're oceans apart / There is so much space between us." She's different--"everything changed me"--and believes they may be "already defeated" and that it's not worth trying to salvage this wrecked relationship.
The song "began with the melody," Martin said. "I found a little madrigal-like tune that I liked but couldn't make work, so I played with it for two or three days and then threw it in the wastebasket."
"The original version was so lugubrious that Judy Garland refused to sing it. She said, 'If I sing that, little Margaret will cry and they'll think I'm a monster.' So I was young then and kind of arrogant, and I said, 'Well, I'm sorry you don't like it, Judy, but that's the way it is, and I don't really want to write a new lyric.' But Tom Drake, who played the boy next door, took me aside and said, 'Hugh, you've got to finish it. It's really a great song potentially, and I think you'll be sorry if you don't do it.' So I went home and I wrote the version that's in the movie."
