I do not understand if the second is another Caniell's "creation". In the presentation he says: This important benefit concert, at which I was present, occurred in Carnegie Hall. It was not broadcast. It was preserved in good sound by the Carnegie Hall recording service for the Toscanini family. The entire concert is offered with a significant change. The Walküre scene from Act I had the role of Siegmund sung by Set Svanholm. I could not endure his singing then or in any rehearings since, thus my inability to release this concert during the past 40 years of our work. Finally, during 2025, a solution occurred to me, replace Svanholm with Melchior who sang this role under Toscanini's direction in 1940 and that's what I did. Every moment of this concert is conducted by Toscanini and the totality of its effect and importance has not been attenuated by the change I made. Extensive notes, photos and biographies. An example of Svanholm's singing in this concert is included. It will explain the replacement.

The full original Svanholm voice is available in other editions, for instance the ones by Myto or Guild, in a previous rehearsal of April 1947.

received both the cds. the all Tchaikovsky should be interesting for the Patetique, while the other performances are already known to aficionados. Owing to the fact that the source is partial, due to the loss or damage of one of the lacquer of the Walter Toscanini's private recording (the concert was broadcast starting from the Nutcracker), the reconstruction uses the 1941 and 1947 performances to fill a 13.30 gap, Therefore sound differences are present. However one can get a good idea of the whole concert.

About the second concert I can understand that Caniell's taste was more positive towards Melchior instead of Svanholm, but to avoid too much sound differences especially during the duets, were the original Svanholm was kept, I still do not understand the loss of time to achieve such result, which has not changed much from the musical point of view. Interesting as usual the rehearsals.

Also note that the Ride of the Valkyries is not from the April 1949 concert but from another concert later in the year.
