Hi,

we´re currently using SVN to great success in managing mostly text documents like .docx or .xlsx files, which are pretty small. So our workflow is basically 'update the whole repository each morning'.
Because versioning is great, we´d love to also add bigger files like .psd´s to SVN. The morning updates get much much bigger and take much longer though.
Is it possible to exclude several file extensions from downloading to the local working directory on a client basis? So for example only artists will have the psds synched up every morning?

All I´ve found is ways to prevent SVN from adding files to the repository, which is not what we want.

I´ve tried the search function and consulted the manual without success. Is there a way to set this up in TSVN? Any help is highly appreciated.

Regards

Hi Erol!

If you can organize the files into folders, users can individually decide to exclude folders they don't need
from their working copy.
rightclick -> TortoiseSVN -> update-to-revison -> leave HEAD marked, "make depth sticky", "choose items" and deselect all folders you are not interested in.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Hi Mr Niemann,

thank you for your quick reply.
Your solution is very interesting, but this would need to be set manually for every newly included folder.
Is there a way to for example auto-exclude folders of a certain name?

Hi Erol,

If you let me do so, I may add something to the Hartmut's advise. With SVN you don't need to checkout/update the whole repository. If you create some folders according to the file types, the people who work with those files could checkout only the right directory.
Need to mix-up different types? I suggest to use some externals (https://tortoisesvn.net/docs/nightly/TortoiseSVN_en/tsvn-dug-externals.html). In the end you could have a directory for each type of work.

Hope it will help.
Justin

Hi Justin,

thanks for your advice. I´ll look into externals.
