Hi,

I usually use tortoiseSVN with github. Today, after upgrade to 1.11, tortoiseSVN can not checkout, update, commit to github anymore ..

It says "the server does not support the HTTP/DAV protocol"

Any one like me?

You have to report this on GitHub. It's their implementation that doesn't work.

i forgot to tell you.. when i switch back to old version, like 1.10.3, tortoiseSVN works fine with github.

But on 1.11, it stops working.

Please check.

Thanks

I can't. I'm not working at GitHub.
Subversion defines the protocol. If GitHub does something on its own, then the problem is there, not in Subversion.

You can use any public github repo to test with tortoise ( it does not require login )

on 1.10, it works, but on 1.11, it stop working and show error. so i think because the tortoise update, not github

Let me try to explain this more clearly:

* Subversion defines the protocol
* GitHub implemented something of their own, they are not using svn code

Now, since GitHub has their own implementation, the svn developers simply can not predict or figure out why GitHub's implementation fails, because only GitHub knows that code.

It doesn't matter whether I can reproduce the problem or not. I can not do anything about it. Only GitHub developers can.

Perhaps this is a issue with subversion 1.11.0.
I've found this: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=232945.
They seem to have the same problem.

It is an issue with SVN 1.11, they implemented stricter protocol
checking:

> Return a better error message when connecting to an URL on a server
> that does not implement the DAV protocol.

https://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=1825302
https://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/subversion-users/201811.mbox/<ba7c96e5-8a04-e676-9ee7-02357aeb3118%40apache.org>

We need to make GitHub recognize this problem and ask them to
implement a fix. I'll already posted them the problem on Friday and
send them the thread on the user mailing list of SVN, but didn't get a
response yet.

So spread the word/threads to everyone... :-)

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

I have the same issue, it's related to stricter protocol checking in SVN 1.11:

https://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/subversion-users/201811.mbox/<ba7c96e5-8a04-e676-9ee7-02357aeb3118%40apache.org>

We need to make GitHub recognizing that change and ask them to change their implementation. I've already written to sup...@github.com on Friday, but didn't get any response yet. I've forwarded my thread for the SVN-devs as well.

I am having exactly the same problem.

Committing to GitHub doesn't work.

Also, Check Out doesn't work either.

I have also reported to GitHub, thank you for pointing to the stricter protocol checking page.

I have had the same issue and have had to document the issue for my company and tell everyone not to upgrade.

Response from GitHub:

Thanks for writing in to GitHub Support and sorry you have experienced this problem.
This error is occurring when using v1.11 of SVN with GitHub. Our engineers are currently working on supporting SVN v1.11. We'll let you know when that support is available.
In the meantime you'll need to use an older version in order to connect with GitHub.
All the best,
Lesley

I have not heard anything more from Support, and as far as I can tell there is no public tracker for this issue on their end.

It would be helpful to report "me too" on this issue.

I consider the TortoiseSVN version of this issue closed.

Thank you

Anybody knows if github.com supports the latest TortoiseSVN now?

I’m told it does but haven’t tested.

Thank you two.
I've just tested TortoiseSVN-1.11.1.28492-x64-svn-1.11.1 and can confirm it works with updating and checking out from github :)
