I had to format my computer and reinstall all programs including Windows 10.

I've downloaded and reinstalled Tortoise SVN, but not I can't do checkout because I get the following message:

Unable to connect to a repository at URL _________

Error running context: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

I've tried to turn the firewall off, didn't work.

If anyone could help me with a simple and methodical explanation, after all I know nothing about computer systems, I would be very very grateful.

Hello Liana,

Double-check that the URL you enter in the client is correct. Check that the protocol is correct (http vs. https) and that you enter the correct port if your server listens on anything other than 80 / 433.
