Hello,

I have downloaded TortoiseSVN for testing.

We want to use SVN for version control of mechanical CAD-files.

Software used during the test:

Windows 7 Professional SP 1

TortoiseSVN, Version 1.7.1

SolidWorks 2011, SP4

A local repository was created and some initial tests were carried out.

The following was noted:

1.      The icon overlay “locked” was not shown (when I tested in Windows XP it worked).

2.      SVN information (e. g. SVN-revision) was not available in extra columns in Windows Explorer (according to the user guide it is not possible in Vista and that seems to be the case for Windows 7 as well).

3.      A lot of interruptions (“Not Responding”) occurred when trying to perform:

·        Commit (on modified files)

·        Get lock

·        Release lock

·        Check for modifications

Have you got any comments on the items above?

Grateful for hints on item 3, interruptions.

Best regards

Microsoft removed the ability to have custom columns in Explorer as of Vista.

Others have reported problems with SolidWorks as well (search this
mailing list's archive, it's been reported in the past few weeks). The
problem appears to be with their shell extension, as it doesn't happen
for thousands upon thousands of people who don't have SolidWorks. Open
a case with them; presumably you have a support contract with them,
and the TortoiseSVN developers can't buy a multi-thousand-dollar piece
of software just to debug problems in that vendor's code.

It's also possible that SolidWorks is causing interference with item #1 above.
