I am trying to set up a working copy within a OneDrive linked folder that has the files locally on my PC. I know this might not be a good idea and still have to discuss if we want to do this within our company, but I am testing if it works.

During testing I noticed the TortoiseSVN icons are not showing up on the folders, while they do when I check out in a folder that is not linked to OneDrive. I am working on Windows 11 and currently run TortoiseSVN 1.14.3, Build 29387 - 64 Bit. I have already tried removing the OneDrive overlay icons from the registry and adding leading spaces to the Tortoise icons, rebooting, and TortoiseSVN clean up option to refresh shell overlays. Is this a known issue for current versions of OneDrive?

Does anyone have experience with the current version of TortoiseSVN and OneDrive? To me it looks like OneDrive is completely blocking any overlay icons in OneDrive folders since they have implemented the Status column in the Explorer instead of the OneDrive overlay icons.

Short answer: Don't store the working copy on OneDrive.

If you search the forum, you will find numerous threads describing issues with OneDrive, the most recent: https://groups.google.com/g/tortoisesvn/c/jhOz-zPMLJ8/m/S40u44PCBwAJ

Slightly longer answer: There is a significant risk that OneDrive doesn't play well with the SQLite database in the .svn folder. There are also some indications that OneDrive will not sync the .svn folder at all, in which case the folder will not be treated as a working copy at all (except on the computer where it was originally checked out).

Kind regards,
Daniel

The idea is that it only needs to work on the computer that it was checked out on and that the one drive only functions as a back up of that PC.
The files will also not be on-Demand, but always availible on the PC. I understand that OneDrive might still be a bad idea, but for now I just want to understand what the issue with the icons is.

From some obscure mentions on the web it looks like the overlay icons for OneDrive within the Explorer have been deprecated, but I see no obvious reason why other overlay icons would not work at all.
Does anyone have any experience with this behaviour from TortoiseSVN on OneDrive or know if OneDrive folders have unequivically been blocked from displaying overlay icons in the newest versions of Windows11 / OneDrive?
