Unexpected server error 500 'Internal Server Error'

I'm connecting to a GitHub repository and their support team insists this is a client issue.

I am attempting to commit a Visual Studio project file and I get the following error. This is specific to this file. Other files in this repository are not having this issue.

Other than the generic error message, I don't have any details.

From the log:

Unexpected server error 500 'Internal Server Error' on

Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this?

Uh, I've never used Git before, but I thought that Git and SVN were totally different things. Why would you use TortoiseSVN to connect to a Git repository, wouldn't you use TortoiseGit?

GitHub somewhat supports SVN, but not everything and sometimes I had
problems in the past as well. In general it works pretty good, though,
for where I need to "marry" existing SVN workings copies with those
from GitHub.

Do some voodoo and scan the file using VirusTotal to see if anything
provides an alarm. Besides that, if I had problems in the past with
the SVN bridge, those were most likely solved by simply checking out
the working copy from GitHub again.

Other than that you are pretty much lost without the concrete server
side error message in my opinion. Insisting on a client side issue is
wrong of course, the SVN bridge is not that stable from my experience.
