It would be incredibly useful if the 'show modifications' dialog showed a message such as "There are 2 shelved commits" in situations where you have shelved items.

This dialog is the go-to place for checking whether a working copy is clean and therefore safe to delete but, now that the shelving feature has been introduced, you also need to remember to check for shelved items. Indicating the presence of shelved items in the modification dialog would help to avoid accidentally deleting shelved commits in an otherwise clean WC.

I would expect that if there were no shelved items then the dialog would appear as it currently does, i.e. there is no need to include a 'There are 0 shelved commits' notice.

I would suggest that the notification also serves as a link, which opens the shelf list, for ease of navigation.

EDIT: I've just realised there isn't a shelf list, just an 'unshelf' dialog.  Is this something that should be added, to allow browsing the shelved items?  I could imagine there would be useful functionality here, e.g. being able to view the time the shelf was created, and to browse the changes, without having to restore them.
