My bug is rather simple - I just installed TortoiseSVN 1.6.6 on Windows
7, and restarted my computer. Upon restart, the computer shut down
after varying amounts of time (between 5 and 30 seconds), eventually
shutting down before I could even log on. I had to run a system restore
to un-destroy my operating system. The laptop is 3 years old, but the
Windows 7 install is fresh and clean, free of bloatware.

This sounds a *bit* unlikely - at least to have been caused by TSVN. A
lot of people (myself included) have been running it on Windows 7 for
several months, with the most common complaint having to do with icon
overlays - and that has been fixed in a nightly build a few weeks ago.

WHICH Windows 7, 32 or 64 -bit, and do you have any A/V software installed?

I have at least very similar problem:
My OS is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
fresh and clean, just installed (TortoiseSVN would be the first application installed on it). After installation of TortoiseSVN 1.6.6
I was not able to reboot [:-(] - to any of my partitions, MBR seemed to be damaged. After Windows recovery (2 steps, revoked Tortois installation and boot repair) I am able to work again..

Sorry but I'm not willing to try this again as this is my working PC, have other OSes installed and have to use custom ATA/RAID drives every time I boot from Windows7 installation DVD..

Hello, as I have the same problem with my Windows7 (32bit) versus TortoiseSVN 1.6.6 (32bit), I'm curious if you have found any workaround?

Have you tried older TortoiseSVN version?

Thank you, Pepca

A little piece of advice: check your harddrive thoroughly and then
reinstall Windows again before you even start using that computer for
work. Because TSVN does not and never, ever will even touch the MBR. If
it got damaged, either your harddrive is already dying or your computer is.

Yeah, but I don't remember which ones. It seemed to be a problem with
my laptop, perhaps, as it also crashed windows xp. Could it possibly be
my harddrive?

I haven't found a workaround yet.
