The southernmost table in the 'Log Messages' dialog allows users to inspect modifications for the selected revision. One of the context menu actions for this table is "Show log". Could this action be made to succeed even for files that no longer exist in HEAD?

Already works fine with the latest nightly build.

It's failing for me under 1.6.13; perhaps the problem is more subtle than I thought. Could the fact that I deleted the parent folder rather than the file itself be a problem? Error reads "'/svn/!svn/bc/<latest revision number>/<file path>' path not found". I'll try it out on 1.6.14 when it's released and see if the problem goes away. If not, I'll setup a test repository and see if I can't track down a simplified use case. Alternatively, I can "private message" you an SVN login if you want to see it firsthand on my production repository.

That's because 1.6.13 is not the latest nightly. That's the stable
release, from the 1.6 branch, which will not receive new features,
only bugfixes.

Oops, I didn't realize that development had forked. Just took the nightly build for a spin and it does in fact resolve the problem. 1.7 is looking quite impressive; thanks to all the devs for your work on this helpful tool.

I am still having this problem with Tortoise 1.7.2.
If I right click on a deleted file, and select 'Show Log', I receive the following error:

'/svn/MyProject/!svn/rvr/900/myDeletedFile.txt' path not found

This occurs for all deleted files.

Don't bother: you mentioned you're still using 1.6.x - there won't be
any bugfixes done on that versions anymore.

then please be more specific. As I mentioned, it works for me. So you
have to provide enough information for me to reproduce this problem.

I am now using TSVN 1.7.4 @ WinXP 32-bit and some other TSVN/Windows versions on different PCs. All have the same problem:
When I want to show changes for files/folders that were deleted by now, I get the following problem:
Log Messages window shows:
From: 07.02.2106 To: 01.01.1970
File not found: revision 7108, path '/trunk/standard/kunden/...'

7108 is HEAD, but I selected "show log" from this example folder from revision 5868, where it was deleted.
I get the same when I try to "show log" on revision 2680 where this folder was added.
Changing the From and To dates seems not to have any effect.

I get there by opening show log on the parent folder and looking for the revision where the desired file/folder was deleted/added.

Lübbe Onken wrote to this @ 2011-09-16:

This description seems to start at the end and work backwards, which
makes it hard to follow. I'm also not sure which commands you are
using and from where (working copy, repo browser ...)
Can you give a clearer description of exactly what steps you took and
in the order you took them.
Even better, can you give a recipe that works on a publicly accessible
repository?

Can you give a clearer description of exactly what steps you took and
in the order you took them.
Even better, can you give a recipe that works on a publicly accessible
repository?

I can easily reproduce the problem:
- on the root folder of a working, select "SVN Show Log" -> displays the history
- in the list of revisions, scroll down to a revision where a file was deleted and select that revision
- in the list of files, right-click the deleted file and select "Show log"
--> now I get the error: "File not found: revision 10054, path '/trunk/path/to/deleted/file.txt'

In my case, the repository and the working copy are both at revision 10056. The file (for which I'd like to show the history) was deleted in revision 10054.

In the "Repository Browser" I can view the history of the deleted file, when I first set the revision to 10053 (the last revision in which the deleted file still existed) using the "Revision: HEAD" button in the upper right corner.

In the "Show Log" window, I don't know how to do that (or if it's possible). Ideally the show log would do that automatically since it probably knows that I want to show the history of a file which no longer exists in HEAD.

Forgot to mention: I'm using TSVN 1.7.5 on Windows 7 64-bit.
And: the first bullet point sentence should have been "on the root of a working copy (checked out from /trunk), ..."

sorry, I don't know any public accessible repository
maybe a c l (who started this thread) has something more to say
it's hard to follow because I copied it from my former post and added s.th.
I will try to explain it better:

- "show log" on the existing folder (in my working copy) that used to contain the deleted file/folder
- choose the revision where the file/folder was deleted
- "show log" on the file/folder in the file list below
- another "Log Messages" window appears showing the error described above

now I experienced that sometimes it works and sometimes I get the error... even on the same file/folder
I don't know why...

example:
- HEAD 7599
- "show log" on working copy
- choose rev. 7425
- "show log" on a deleted file /trunk/my/fol/der/myfile.pm
- another "Log Messages" windows appears with "From: 01.01.1970 To: 01.01.1970" and error message "File not found: revision 7425, path '/trunk/my/fol/der/myfile.pm'"

I've done this once again and then it worked
the only difference was that I first showed log for some other deleted files/folders before I came to that one that failed, in my second try I went immediately to this file

I now can reproduce this. It fails when neon is configured, but succeeds
if serf is configured.

I've opened issue #231 for this:
