TortoiseSVN Bug: new folder - You have to update your working copy first

  I am having the following problem, after moving my repositories form google chrome to Github, none of the files in this folder can be committed; here is an example:

Commit

I tried tidy up, updating / deleting the folder and removing from the repository, but the error messages persist. How do I commit these files? The problem seems to be restrice to the one folder

Since GitHub has its own implementation of svn, you have to ask them
about this problem.

Still haviong this problem on GitHub. When I add a completely new file I am getting "path ... already exists". I have no idea at all how to resolve this...

Stefan already gave you a suggestion. This is a problem on GitHub so you have to ask them for help.
