John,

I think you need to revisit your server configuration, especially the access rights you’ve granted my account. I wanted to copy BlueBird_Rev_1 to form a new project BlueBird_AOHT…  and then check-out BlueBird_AOHT instead of BlueBird_Rev_1. While attempting to create the folder BlueBird_AOHT within lmenwp0 branch,  I got access forbidden error. See image that follows.

Subject: BUG ==> Tortoise SVN won't prompt for Credentials.

I can clear the credentials, however Tortoise SVN won’t prompt me for new credentials when I try to commit, but will error out as forbidden.  From a separate computer this user is able to commit files to this repository.

Tortoise Client is 1.9.???

The SVN server is older, however it’s been reliable.

Still though, Tortoise SVN should be able to prompt the user for credentials.

Perhaps this would be a great feature to give the user the authority to explicitly change the credentials.

We used to have the problem that if users didn’t enter the login as DOMAIN\username where the text is case sensitive that login wouldn’t be possible, however it could always be rectified by clearing the credentials.

Kind Regards / Mit freundlichen Grüssen

John,

I also downloaded and installed SmartSVN client. I was able to check-out BlueBird but, I could not check-in. I received the same error that I got from TortoiseSVN client.

The errors on the screenshot indeed indicate that the access rules do
not allow your user account to commit. In other words, you have Read
Only access. You should double-check the access rules.

And as a *very* important sidenote, you should seriously consider
upgrading your Subversion server. I'd say that it's not common to see
SVN 1.4.x-based server nowadays. SVN 1.4.6 was released about 9 years
ago, on December 2007[1]. It's great to hear that for ~9 years the
server has been working reliably for you, though. :)

SVN 1.4.x is very-very outdated; it is missing numerous bug and
security fixes. What is more, it does not have the capabilities that
modern SVN servers have and it limits the capabilities available to
your Subversion client software. The main feature that's missing, IMO,
is merge tracking[2][3] and automatic reintegration merges[4][5].
Frankly speaking, it's very hard to point out the most important
feature that's missing in 1.4.x when compared to the latest 1.9.x.
There were many improvements in SVN 1.5.x-1.9.x releases.
