I'd like to be able to specify a default diff viewer for binary files. TortoiseMerge is able to detect them, it'd be nice if it could automatically open my preferred diff viewer.

I work with several different binary files (sometimes with no extensions), and the diff viewer based on extensions isn't cutting it for me.

Thank you,

You could set the svn:mime-type property on those files, then configure
your diff viewer according to those mime-types.

I don't think I'm being very clear I guess.  Let's say I've done "Check for Modifications" in my working copy from the context menu.
If I double click on one of the binary files, TortoiseMerge starts up with a dialog stating "The file... is not a valid text file!"
I think it would be good to have a TortoiseSVN setting where we can specify a default diff/merge tool when binary files are encountered so that instead of showing that error, the default compare tool is opened.
This keeps from having to have specific rules specified within TortoiseSVN for each individual binary file pattern I may encounter.

I don't see how setting the svn:mime-type property can be used to do this.

Thanks!
