I (and many other developers) cannot upgrade to 1.8 due to working copy incompatibility in other tools such as SVNKit and Maven’s svn plugin, which may not be upgraded to 1.8 for several months.

The past two days it appears that TortoiseSVN has silently upgraded itself from 1.7 to 1.8 without requesting any approval or confirmation on my part.  After the first time I disabled the auto version check under Settings/Advanced but this did not seem to have an effect.  According to the system event log today’s upgrade happened around 10:25 PDT this morning, while I was doing other work on the system.  At no time was there an install dialog displayed.

Since I presume Tortoise wouldn’t do this silently, can anybody offer any suggestions to explain how this is happening?

Are you attached to a domain with an IT department that is trying to be “helpful” by keeping stuff up to date?

TortoiseSVN has no mechanism for doing this. It does check for
updates, though you can opt out of that, but it only tells you to go
to the website and download the latest version. There is no button to
do that for you and certainly no way to do it automatically.

That's what I thought. I am currently talking to our IT department as I have pretty clear evidence in the event log that Windows Update (from a locally managed update server) is responsible.

Thanks for the response, and please consider this thread closed.
