Hello,

is it somehow possible (or if not yet can it be implemented) to show that something (folder/file) is an external in the working copy?
When I look at the provided overlay icons I do not see anything related to them.

If necessary, where to file the feature request for this?

Best regards
Markus

Perhaps not quite what you are looking for, but as a workaround if you enable viewing hidden files the root folder of an External has its own hidden .SVN folder. That's what I use to tell, at any rate.

Thanks for this hint, even if that's not as user friendly as another overly icon...

since there's a limited number of overlay slots available in Windows, adding another one wouldn't help much: it won't show up on most systems because there are just too many tools that register such handlers, e.g. Onedrive.

Another tip for externals, I suppose, is that in all my projects I have a separate folder named "Externals", and keep all and keep only external links in that folder.

Each External link makes a single subfolder in the folder named "Externals" where it puts the linked items, and all the svn externals properties are tied to being properties of that folder, not somewhere else.

File structures for the projects and codebase have to bend over to submit to that rule, but hey, it's consistent and avoids recursive externals.

(Learned this one from my coworkers, and since everyone is on board with that system it works ok.)

Thanks for this idea, which I'm already using in my own projects. Unfortunately this doesn't meet the requirements of my colleague.
So even if not everybody could use it due to the small number of overlays supported by Microsoft (I wonder why they cannot/do not increase this)
having the option to have such an overlay would be welcome! For instance my colleague says on his PC enough overlays would be still available!
