Installation requirements

Hi,

we are about to migrate from subversion to git.
Therefore we also want to switch from ToroiseSvn to TortoiseGit.
After installing TortoiseGit without MSysGit on my system the
TortoiseGit settings window displayed the error "MSysGit Install Path
error".
I've downloaded and installed MSysGit and set the path.
However given our setup I'm not sure if the client even needs MSysGit
installed.
The git repository and all source code files resides on a samba share
hosted on our debian server.
Hence my question is MSysGit required for the client?
