How to use TortoiseGit under Windows 7?

I want to be able to use TortoiseGit (as a GUI client) under Windows 7 (64-bit), for the purpose of fetching source code only.
I have downloaded and installed TortoiseGit 1.7.12.0 (64-bit), and also Git-1.7.11-preview20120710.
I do not understand how to start the GUI and use it for fetching source code, despite the extensive help file included with TortoiseGit.
Can someone indicate where basic instructions for getting started can be found?

Open explorer, enter a folder then right click mouse, you will see menu.

I see this menu, but which choice does what I want? I don't want to create a repository, and the Tortoise item has only settings. That leaves "clone".

BTW, I do not want these menu items to appear when I right-click anything. Any way to get rid of that, and have the TortoiseGit GUI appear as a standard Windows menu item?

Generally, you should use clone to get new repository from the other place.

All tortoise products, tortoisegit, tortoisesvn and tortoisecvs use
similar behaviors.
It work as explorer plug-in.

Go to the settings dialog and go to General->Context Menu and select "Hide menues for unversioned paths." Then the TortoiseGit entries are not shown (unless you press shift while right clicking) for non git folders.
