You should install germon language package.

Msgit itself is also in English.

Note: My global Windows Local is German, as I live in Germany and therefore need a German keyboard so I don't have to change layout between home and work, and can communicate easily with my phone company website ...

I thought at first the program was just trying to be user-friendly, but if the language setting is on English, then this qualifies as a bug, IMHO.
