Overlay icons

I am annoyed by OneDrive always taking over the overlay icons from TortoiseGIT and TortoiseSVN. Editing the registry helps for the moment, but with the next Windows update the icons are gone again.

I am aware of the mess in Windows allowing only a low number of overlay icons. Therefore my proposal: Can't TortoiseGIT/SVN  be extended such that it reuses the existing equal or similar overlay icons and adds its own icons only when the needed icons are not available?

In my experience the biggest culprit was Dropbox but IIRC it was possible to set the registry entries so that they were read-only. I can't remember how it was done but you could maybe look into it.
