Hi,

we're pround to announce TortoiseGit 2.18.

We thank all bug reporters, testers and translators for their help!

You can check for updates using the settings or the about dialog
(recommended) - or you can download the release here:
https://tortoisegit.org/download/

TortoiseGit no longer ships the necessary "Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributable 2015–2022" (cf. issue #4209). Make sure you have the
latest version installed before upgrading:
* x64: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
* ARM64: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.arm64.exe
* x86: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe (also needed on
x64 for context menu in x86 applications)

This version drops support for all Windows versions < 10 version 1607.

TortoiseGit no longer ships Notepad2e any more, but now defaults to
Windows Notepad that also supports LF EOL.
If you want to use Notepad2e, you will need to set it up manually
(<https://github.com/ProgerXP/Notepad2e>) and configure it in
TortoiseGit settings as alternative editor.

Git for Windows has stopped providing builds for 32-bit Windows, and
TortoiseGit will follow suit with one of the next releases.

I have the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable installed (v14.44.35211), and I have rebooted my computer (Windows 11 24H2, Build 26100.6899).
However, the new 64-bit installer refuses to install, claiming that the latest Redistributable is not installed. It seems the installer performs an incorrect check 🙁

I don't think that the check is incorrect. We already had a bug report
with a similar issue where some third party software/installer had
downgraded the VC DLLs (cf. <https://tortoisegit.org/issue/4234>). A
reinstallation of the VC redistributables helped.
